Uses treats frequent heartburn (occurs 2 or more days per month). Dosage (10-20 mg taken 3-5 times a day, with or without food) as directed by your doctor. The study involved more than 100,000 patients, which is significantly higher than the population-based study in which the number of patients in the study was only 5 percent of the total population.

Dr. David Hirsch, MD, chief of the Gastroenterology Division at New York University School of Medicine, says the results highlight the benefits of the combination of Nexium and omeprazole.

"One of the main advantages of this combination is the increased efficiency of treatment," he says. "It allows patients to experience relief from their acid-related symptoms much quicker."

The study found that patients taking Nexium and omeprazole showed similar improvement in symptoms compared to patients taking omeprazole alone.

Hirsch says that the results are based on real-world clinical trials, rather than a randomized controlled trial, which is conducted to make claims about safety and efficacy.
