Nexium 24HR ( Esomeprazole 20mg ) is usually taken as needed on an empty stomach or at least 1 hour before food. It can be taken with or without food. The dose is decided by your doctor and depends on what you are taking it for and how long it is used to you. The maximum dose is 20 mg, but it can be taken up to 4 times in a day. Therefore, you may take it up to 6 hours before or after you plan to eat or drink. The dose may be reduced to half as it deteriorates.
Nexium 24HR should not be taken by children and adolescents under 16 years of age. It is not recommended to take it for longer than 4 weeks without consulting your doctor. This medicine is for you only.
Nexium 24HR can cause side effects. These may include stomach pain, constipation, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or upset stomach. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor. Taking this medicine with a high-fat meal may reduce the effects of the medicine. However, it is always best to take it at a fixed time to ensure the medicine is absorbed.
